Ways to Connect with Refugees

Pray
• for the refugees who have relocated to Knoxville.
• that God strengthens the director and staff of Bridge Refugee and Sponsorship Services. Visit www.korrnet.org\refugees for details.
• for refugees around the world; visit the United Nations refugee web site www.unhcr.ch/ to glean insights into the refugee status worldwide.

Sponsor a Refugee Family
“Sponsors are people who believe that there is always hope, even for people who have lost everything.  Sponsors give refugees a new chance to live.” (www.korrnet.org\refugees)

Bridge Refugee Resettlement and Sponsorship Services was birthed by an Oak Ridge native in the early 1980s and is the gateway for refugees to enter into the East Tennessee area.
• The primary mechanism for bringing refugees to Knoxville is through church sponsorship.
• A team of about 10 people with approximately $2,000 and three to four months of time will be enough to change the life of a refugee arriving in Knoxville. You will be able to welcome them at the airport, build a unique relationship and help them achieve self-sufficiency within just a few months. Bridge Services will help you along the way.
• For sponsorship details, visit Bridge on the web (www.korrnet.org\refugees).

Help Bridge in Other Ways
• Serve in the Bridge office as a Case Management Assistant to work directly with clients. Help clients complete forms and write letters.
• Gather donated items; help set up apartments for refugees.
• Donate furniture, cars, household items.
• Help find medical professionals – eye doctors, medical doctors, dentists – willing to help refugees.
• Donate cash to be used for emergency needs that always arise.
• Supply a Mary and Joseph Pack: This gift includes kitchen and bath items, linens and toiletries to welcome a refugee family to their new home in Knoxville.
• Youth groups: Do the “Backpack Project.”

This gift includes a new backpack filled with school supplies to welcome a refugee child to the Knox County School System. It is a perfect youth-group project.
