The Automobile
Transplant Program not only brings about a wonderful and vitally important
gift for a deserving family, but permits that family to make a giant
stride in becoming more stable and better able to contribute to the
overall welfare of our community.
This program is designed to provide a
relatively simple way for reliable automobiles to be given by people who
are in a position to be givers. The automobiles are given to
respectable and deserving recipients who for various reasons are
economically disadvantaged to the point of not being able to purchase an
automobile. Most frequent examples of such recipients would be single
parent mothers, persons unable to be employed due to health issues, the
working poor and relocated refugees.
Who Makes the Program Work
The program is designed for
auto dealers, as well as individuals. We are hopeful and prayerful
that you will be willing to be a part of the most important of the four
groups that work together to make this program happen. Obviously,
without caring automobile dealers and individuals who are willing to make
a gift, there is no program! In addition to you, there are three
other groups who contribute to the program:
1) The sponsors, who are the various
folks at several different churches and community agencies who represent a
network able to identify and screen needy families who are prospective
recipients, and who are willing to recommend or "sponsor" them.
2) The selection team, consisting of people from various churches in town,
who meet monthly or as needed to consider the merits of the applications
and make the best possible allocations of the donated automobiles to the
most needy and deserving families.
3) The few folks at Fellowship Church who will serve as Program
Coordinators, staying in touch with these groups to assure a smooth,
efficient and timely working of the program.
The Goal
The goal is to provide an
absolutely invaluable assist to families and individuals for whom such
assistance will be the springboard to permit them to move toward becoming
contributors to the community, rather than substantially recipients. Such
families will not be chosen based upon gender, race, ethnic background,
church or religious affiliation, or any factor other than their obvious
and documented need, their reasonably ascertainable declaration of the
means by which a reliable automobile will facilitate a more
self-sustaining, stable and useful lifestyle, and their ability to
maintain the vehicle and keep it insured (sponsoring
churches/organizations may help recipients with this if needed).
How
the Program Works
1. The dealer or
individual communicates a willingness to participate and, if possible,
indicates the number of cars they hope to donate annually.
2. When the dealer
finds that a vehicle is available that would make an excellent donor car,
the car is put through the inspection process.
3. The dealer
notifies the Program Coordinator that a donor car is in process, and
indicates when it will have clear title and be available for pick up.
4. The Program
Coordinator will make arrangements for the vehicle to be removed from the
dealer's premises within two business days of being notified by the dealer
that the vehicle is ready for delivery.
5. The recipient
executes the Automobile Warranty Waiver and goes to the Courthouse to
transfer title, with Fellowship Church shown as lien holder (to prevent
disposal).

details, along with a copy of the form used to nominate a potential vehicle
recipient, is included in this packet)
